Salt Air and Slow Mornings

Written by Emma Fitzgerald

Three weeks on the coast in March, when the light is thin and nobody else is there.
The plan, briefly
We went to photograph the collection and ended up mostly walking, which produced better pictures than the schedule would have.

Three parts
This is the diary — in three parts, none of them useful, all of them accurate.
Week one: rain, and a decision to stop checking the forecast, which improved everything.
Week two: the light came back for about forty minutes a day. We learned to be outside for all forty.
Week three: stopped shooting entirely for two days. Those two days are where the good frames came from.

What we learned
That a schedule is a way of not paying attention. The pieces we were carrying are in the everyday collection, and they were wet for most of it.
